I Never Slept
“I was finally almost asleep (I thought) when suddenly I was wide awake in the other place, walking down the street in broad daylight. You came around the corner in your winter coat, hands in pockets, not paying attention to me or anything at all really and kissed me on the lips. Just a peck. I was stunned. You looked at me, also in shock, almost as if to say ‘I wasn’t expecting you to be there. I don’t know what’s happening.’ But you said to me, ‘I am sorry. I don’t know why I did that.’ And I replied, ‘It’s OK. It’s time for both of us to wake up now.’ And we did, I believe. And I never slept.”
